About Me

Welcome to my home page!

I’m a native Texan who has lived in Fort Worth for over a decade. Have spent a significant part of my life as an engineer and teacher of various types.

My start in the engineering field was in drafting and design. AutoCAD has always been a go-to tool for many of my projects. I have been using it since version 14. I attended Hill College in Hillsboro, Texas and earned three degrees in mechanical, electrical and architectural design.

Afterward, I attended Texas State Technical College in Waco, Texas. For my final project, I designed and built an engine lathe. Complete with a four jaw chuck, graduated dials and and adjustable tail stock. There is no substitute for hands-on experience in engineering!

My career in computer science began as a helpdesk technician at an internet service provider named Interlink in Hillsboro, Texas. I learned to manage web and mail servers during my time there. Also finally gained an understanding of how the internet actually works.

I earned a Master’s degree in Information Systems from Tarleton State University. My research interests during my graduate work were in data mining with a cluster of commodity computers on the Linux platform. This work was completed for the Center for Agribusiness Excellence in Stephenville, Texas under Dr. Walter Johnston.

As part of my internship, I took a job as a UNIX system administrator in Stephenville, Texas. There I learned how to manage and maintain web, e-mail and custom UNIX tools for the manufacturing industry. At that time I started to learn C programming for PA-RISC UNIX. Wanted to work toward a proficiency as a computer graphics expert.

Currently, I work as a Software Verification Engineering Manager. Our company develops real-time computer graphics drivers for aircraft and other applications. My team consists of 15+ engineers of varying levels of experience.

I enjoy teaching and mentoring other junior engineers and college students. Spent several years as a professor of computer science at Tarrant County College in Fort Worth, Texas. Moreover, I teach classes on the side at my training company Digital Science Academy. Most of my courses focus on introductory computer science or programming.

Occasionally I have completed several personal programming projects. These include an assembler, an object-oriented compiler and other odds and ends. Each is covered in detail in the projects section of this site.
